New way to pay traffic fines

Following my recent post on traffic fines I have a further update for those driving in the Fuengirola area. Local Police cars have now had electronic POS (point of sale) terminals installed. This means that those who are fined for committing a driving offence will be able to pay on the spot with a credit or debit card.

The benefit

Yes there is a benefit, any fine settled within 20 days of notification attracts a 50% discount off the total fine. Paying on the spot gaurantees the discount, no need to worry about missing the 20 day deadline.  Another great benefit is you get confirmation of the payment straight away along with further confirmation on the statement from your bank.

A first?

I understand that Fuengirola is the first town to adopt this system and it’s introduction follows research that told them that people would like to be offered this kind of payment flexibility.

For those of you Expats who have been caught doing something that you shouldn’t on the roads of Spain, the process of paying fines has now become a little easier.

If you have a valid Spanish driving licence or if you’ve transferred your overseas licence to comply with the Spanish regulations, then you will now be able to pay fines on line.

Details are not in English

The website that you need is www.dgt.es but it is only available in Spanish. However if follow the instructions below you can easily pay using a debit or credit card without having to leave home.

You may also be entitled to a discount if you pay the money within 30 days of receiving the fine.

Here’s how to do it

Go to the website above and click on the ‘Trámites y Multas’ section which can be found on the left hand side of the page.

Click on ‘¿Alguna Multa?’ and then ‘Pago de Multas’

Go into section ‘A’ and complete the form as follows and in this order:-

Document type

Document number

First name

First surname

Second surname

Record or file number

Total amount of the fine

By following this process exactly you will then get a receipt of payment.

Alternative to the Internet

The alternative procedure is still the same as it used to be. You either have to go to your local Jafatura de Trafico office, vistit a branch of Banco Santander or nearest post office (Correos).
