Claims Page

Most Spanish insurance companies will offer a 24 hour, 365 days claims support centre which is accessible via a designated telephone number.

If the company has an ‘expatriate’ division you will normally be offered that support in English, however it’s always wise to ask that question before signing up!

Claiming whilst abroad

If an insurance policy provides you with cover when abroad it is more than likely they employ the services of a specialist company in that country, such as Mondial Assist. Most good insurance companies do this so their clients can receive quick and efficient assistance when they need it the most.

A separate telephone number is normally provided for assistance and claims whilst abroad. I therefore recommend that you make a note of this number and keep it with you when traveling away from Spain. You will normally find these numbers on your policy document.

Unhappy with the result of a claim?

If you are ever in need of making an official complaint against an insurance company decision, here’s what you should do.

  • Complain to the insurance company direct – the larger companies will have a complaints department (derensores del asegurado)
  • If things are not resolved to your satisfaction then send a complaint to:               Serviciode Relamaciones, Direccion General de Seguros y Fondos de Pensiones (DGSFP), Paseo de la Castellana 44, 28046, MADRID.

Please note the DGSFP will only be concerned with Spanish insurance companies and those foreign companies who have registered offices in Spain.
