Home insurance Spain (seguro de hogar) normally includes the building and it’s contents, (which will be covered in more depth when you click on the links below) and third party liability.

With buildings and contents insurance Spain part of the premium you pay is a syndicate tax. This tax is paid by all of the insurance companies to the ‘Consorcio de Compensacion de Seguros’. The consortium covers extraordinary events such as:

• Earthquakes
• Extraordinary flooding
• Volcanic eruption
• Cyclones
• Damage by objects from space or meteorites
• Terrorism, rebellion, riot or uprising
• Action of the Armed Forces or Security Forces in peacetime
• Subsidence

As with all expatriate insurance it is important to have all the documentation in English. All good companies will provide this, ask the question before you buy and above all be confident in your insurance agent in Spain.
